DESCRIPTION Biodyne B Membrane, manufactured by Pall Life Science, is composed of Nylon 6,6 on an integral non-woven polyester support. The cationic pore surfaces contain a high density of quaternary ammonium groups. The membrane is resistant to heat and solvents, and may undergo multiple rounds of hybridization without shrinking, tearing, or cracking. FORM/STORAGE Biodyne B Membrane is positively charged and has a pore size of 0.45 μm. Store at room temperature in a dry place. APPLICATIONS Positively-charged Biodyne B Membrane may be used for the strong ionic binding of negatively charged nucleic acids or proteins in such protocols as Southern, Northern, Western, or dot blotting. USE Biodyne B Membrane should be handled at the corners with forceps. The membrane should be cut with sharp scissors, a sharp, clean scalpel, or a razor blade. KPL recommends treating the membrane in the following manner prior to transfer of nucleic acid or protein: 1.Wet the membrane in molecular biology grade water 5 minutes. 2.Equilibrate the membrane in 10X SSC, 10X SSPE or other appropriate buffer for 30 minutes. 3.Use damp membrane for transfer applications. Allow membrane to dry before using for dot blots. 4.Following transfer, nucleic acids may be fixed to Biodyne B Membrane either by baking at 80oC for 30 minutes or by UV crosslinking.
